Dissertation note: Undergraduate Thesis Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English University of Rizal System, Rodriguez, Rizal 2024 Summary: This study aims to explore the creative writing skills of Humanities and Social Sciences Senior High School students at Valley High Academy. Creative Writing is a subject that teaches students a variety of ways on how to improve their writing skills in terms of writing their own stories, poems, essays, and the like. This also includes reading different literature genres from famous and remarkable authors. The researchers used this topic to determine if the Creative Writing subject is an efficient subject that helps students to enhance their writing and cognitive skills. Furthermore, this study focused on the creative writing skills in English of the grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Senior High School students at Valley High Academy to determine its effectiveness in enhancing the creative writing skills of the students This research has utilized the qualitative research design to adequately describe the learning experiences of the students in taking Creative Writing subject. After the approval of the research proposal, the researchers chose a research interview using purposive sampling to gather the necessary information for the study. The researchers have selected fifteen Grade 12 HUMSS students at Valley High Academy as the subject of the study. The researchers conducted this study through face-to-face interviews using purposive sampling to make sure that all their answers would come from their perspective on the said subject. This study is only limited to Grade 12 HUMSS students, therefore there are only limited participants who were able to answer the questions at the given time. The researchers utilized video and audio recordings of the interview to ensure the quality of information, they also purposively chose fifteen participants ensuring that all answers could meet the needs of the study The researchers interpreted all the information gathered through interview transcription. Based on the findings and conclusions, it was found that the participants have various books in their house and they found interest in writing even though they encountered problems that made the Creative Writing subject hard to cope with. Creative Writing subject has positive and negative effects on students' creative writing and critical thinking skills, and the majority of the students were having a hard time utilizing their creative writing and critical thinking skills in the Creative Writing subject, and the students did not find the subject helpful in enhancing and improving their writing skills. Most of the students did not learn any new skills from the Creative Writing subject and found it not helpful to their academic study because they were having difficulty understanding the lessons, and the said subject was not effective in enhancing the students' creative writing skills. In conclusion, the Creative Writing subject was not effective in enhancing the students' creative writing skills, and the students still encountered various problems in taking the subject such as following the grammar rules, understanding the English language, expanding their vocabulary, reading comprehension, and expressing themselves through writing using the English language. This study is recommended for specific reasons, including students. This research is recommended to students to study more about the Creative Writing subject to enhance their writing and critical thinking skills. For school, this study offers new ideas and knowledge to make the school curriculum suitable for every student's needs to enhance their critical and creative writing skills. For teachers, this study can be used as a reference material that may help the teachers in aiding the students' creative writing and critical thinking skills, It also serves as a guide for them to assist students learning skills and improvement in creative writing. For researchers, this study could be a basis for discovering new things that will make Creative Writing subject more effective and helpful for students to achieve their highest potential in the field of writing. It serves as their reference to make their study essential and help the people, especially the students and teachers to acquire new learnings about creative writing skills.
