This study aimed to determine the Needs Assessment on Online Learning of Science Teachers in Public Secondary Schools. Specifically, San Jose National High School and San Jose-Litex Senior High School SY. 2021-2022.
It utilized the descriptive research design, specifically a correlational one.
Thus, resulting have a total of 23 respondents. On the validity of the research instrument, the researchers made a survey questionnaire online where scrutinize by the experts for their content validity. The results were tabulated and statistically treated using frequency and percentage distribution to show the profile of the respondents. Thematic analysis was used to determine the needs in online learning of Science teachers in public secondary schools when grouped according to their profile.
Based on the analysis and statistical treatment applied to the data gathered the following findings are summarized. There were 22 female science teachers. Most of their age ranged from 31 to 36 years old. Their monthly income amounted to 21,000 to 30,000. There were 14 science teachers who have pursued graduate studies. They were all provided with seminar and trainings inside and outside of the schools. Then, the identified the needs of the respondents in online leaming was there only few of the respondents who owned smart devices and they have answered yes to the questions in the commands. Some of the conclusions drawn include that the educational attainment and trainings/seminars attended had relevance to the identified needs of Science teachers in online learning. Identified need of the respondents in gadgets was the smart devices. On the other hand, most of the respondents has answered yes to the questions in the basic command skills. Lastly, the suggestions to supplement their needs in online learning include software integration where maximization of digital platforms are evident and professional development where supplementation on ICT related courses are required.
The recommendations for pre-service teachers, they must have time in exploring computer and surfing the internet to establish ideas about online learning. For teachers, they must have trainings/seminars related to online learning and they need to improve the identified needs in online learning for their further teachings because of the new educational setting. For administrators, this will be a basis in implementing programs focusing on the improvement of the teachers in their needs in online learning. For future researchers, this will serve as a guide to improve and make possible interventions to future researchers.
