Dissertation note: Undergraduate Thesis Bachelor of Elementary Education area of Specialization Content Courses University of Rizal System, Rodriguez, Rizal 2014 Summary: This study was conducted to determine the role of the teacher in handling temper tantrums among kindergarten to grade one pupils in San Jose Elementary School Rodriguez, Rizal, School Year 2014-2015. It sought to determine the strategies and techniques used by the teachers. Furthermore, this also looked into the problems met by the teacher in handling temper tantrums. The descriptive qualitative method of research was employed by the researchers in this study, for it supplies current information. The questionnaires was the major method tool use in gathering data. Informal interviews were also conducted to supplement the data gathered. There were fifteen teachers and eight students served as respondents used in this study. The significant findings drawn with regard to the profile of respondent were: in terms of sex, out of fifteen respondents fourteen of them were female and only one was male. With regard to the civil status, eight of them were married and seven of them were single. With regards of number of years in teaching experience, seven of them were two to four years in the service while the other four ranged five to nine years in the service and the remaining four had been teaching for about ten to 28 years. With regard to strategies and techniques used by the teachers to cope with pupil temper tantrums. The researchers found out that techniques they commonly use were not ignore aggressive actions, Keep your cool and deal with the tantrum as calmly as possible and communicate in soothing tones. With regard to common problems in handling temper tantrums by the teachers. The researcher found out that crying, shouting and out of control action and behavior were the common problems. With regard to how teachers' roles in handling temper tantrums. The researchers found out that there were different kinds of temper tantrums. The role of the teachers in handling temper tantrums are be the student's adviser, counselor, psychologist and the child's second parent. This study opened the doors about the role of the teachers in handling temper tantrums and also included the strategies and techniques in dealing. The following conclusion were drawn: Pupils with temper tantrums occurred more often to kindergarten and grade one pupils. Pupils get spoiled with their parents are those with temper tantrums. Most pupils who are hard headed and hard to calm down. Pupils with temper tantrums are attention seekers. Indeed, they scream, cry, strike out, kick and also sometimes hurt themselves on their classmates. Ignoring aggressive actions, keeping cool and calm, and communicating with soothing tone are the most commonly used strategies and techniques in handling temper tantrums. Teachers play a big role in their students' life. Handling temper tantrums is not that easy. Becoming students' second parent challenge the teacher to be the students' role model, counselor and the ones who will understand their needs. Hence the following are recommended: Keep cool, take a deep breath and try to think clearly before dealing with children's temper tantrums. Once the child's temper tantrums calm down, get a chance to talk to him. Let him know that he/she is love by all the people around him. Sincere praises to the child boost his/her morale. Thus, he becomes aware of the need of having proper behavior. Giving rewards once in a while could help tame the child but talking to him/her heart to heart is still the best.
