This study aimed to determine the Teachers' Strategies among Pupils with Truancy The study was conducted during the School Year 2018-2019 at Kasiglahan Village Elementary School
This study utilized qualitative method of research to attain the objective of the study. The researchers randomly chose twelve teachers of grade six pupils
From the gathered data, the following were the summarized findings drawn Most of the respondents were female and most of them are married Teachers have been in the service three to eighteen years and most of them were graduates of Master studies The causes of truancy among pupils are family problem, financial problem, lack of support/motivation of their parents, poor study habits and interest, health problems, peer pressure and sometimes the distance of school from their home, poverty, ICT addiction, lack of interest to study, early teenage relationship and inappropriate self-mind set awareness, laziness or there's no one to monitor the pupil because both parents were busy at their work.
The strategies employed by the respondents on truancy were they gave merits or certificates of appreciation for their perfect attendance Talking and asking their pupils the reasons why they do not attend the class regularly. Require them to bring excuse letter and medical certificate if they are sick. If they do not have valid reasons, they call the attention of their parents. Befriending them so that they would feel belong. Home visitation is the best way to deal pupils committing truancy to be able to understand the reasons behind.
On the problems encountered by the respondents in dealing with truants, were the distance of the pupils' home from school, cooperation of the parents. cooperation of the pupils, follow up/monitoring their pupils, too much preparation, conflict on schedule and pursuing/motivating their pupils
From the stated findings the following conclusions were drawn Teachers have upgraded themselves professionally to serve their pupils better. The causes are family problem, financial problem, lack of of pupils truancy support/motivation of their parents and peer pressure. Teachers employ strategies such as home visitation, calling the attention of the parents and pupil to teacher counseling to address truancy among the pupils Too much preparation and conflict on schedule are the most prevailing problem encountered by the teachers but they have ready solution to overcome it.
In the light of the findings and conclusions of the study, it is recommended to Parents that they should understand their child. It is very helpful in becoming effective in guiding and nurturing their children as they grow and mature They should encourage their children and give them sample advice on the importance of education to every individual.
