Summary: "The capstone project was created with the primary purpose of designing and developing a 2D role-playing game inspired by Philippine mythology for mobile platforms. The project took place throughout the academic year 2024-2025 and sought to provide an engaging and culturally enriching gaming experience while satisfying a 95% quality assurance requirement. The goal of the project was to assess the game's overall quality and determine player satisfaction in various areas such as usability/playability, narrative, play immersion, enjoyment, creative freedom, audio aesthetics, personal gratification, social connectivity, and visual aesthetics.. The developers acknowledged the need to combine technical and artistic features to create a well-rounded game that appeals to gamers. The project used Richard Lemarchand's game development structure. which included three main phases: pre-production, production, and post-production. During pre-production, the team designed the game's storyboards, character designs, and gameplay mechanisms. The development was performed during the production phase, which included using tools like Prxilart, Godot, and Aseprites to create assets and code in programming languages like C++. This phase required extensive communication among team members to ensure that gameplay, graphics, music, and interactivity were effectively incorporated. Post-production focused on game testing, debugging, and polishing, as well as obtaining user acceptance using a modified version of Keebler et al 's GUESS instrument, which was evaluated by 30 student respondents from the University of Rizal System Binangonan to assure evaluation reliability.
The results indicated that the game was successful in providing a high-quality and entertaining gaming experience. Players expressed high levels of pleasure with the use, creative flexibility, visual appeal, and immersive storytelling based on Filipino tales and folklore. Moreover, the game passed the quality assurance tests with a score of 100%, and as well as for the user acceptance survey with an overall rating of 6.12.
These findings confirmed that the game worked well and provided participants with a satisfying and culturally important experience. However, social connectedness and play engagement were noted as areas that may be improved. Some users commented the game's restricted multiplayer capabilities and lack of emotional depth, which may have made it more immersive and socially engaging. Despite these limitations, the players rated the game highly and deemed it a success. The game demonstrated significant promise for future development and growth, notably in terms of multiplayer capabilities, branching storylines, and emotionally compelling gameplay. The findings indicated that with more refining, the game may reach an even larger audience and deliver a more fascinating and participatory experience. Overall, the project not only achieved its goals but also demonstrated the possibility of combining traditional storytelling with current mobile game development techniques to produce meaningful digital experiences.
Based on the findings and user input, numerous recommendations are made to improve the game. Strengthening the game's social elements, such as adding multiplayer capability and integrated communication tools, helps develop a greater feeling of community and increase social connectedness, which was noted as a weak point in the user evaluation. Furthermore, integrating emotionally charged events and branching stories may increase narrative engagement and inspire players to establish stronger bonds with the game environment and its characters. Enhancing the game's emotional depth and providing additional possibilities for meaningful choices would also help to increase immersion and repeat value. These enhancements would not only raise overall player pleasure but would also widen the game's appeal to a larger audience, ensuring its future success."
