This study explored the lived experiences of teachers in Last-Mile Schools in Rodriguez, Rizal, focusing on their personal journeys and professional growth while working in remote and underserved areas. These schools are often located in geographically isolated communities, where access to basic resources is limited. Despite the challenges, teachers continue to serve with passion, perseverance, and a deep sense of mission.
One of the main focuses of the study is the challenges encountered by the participants. These include accessibility of the school's location, resources of learning materials, infrastructure, and background of the students. Teachers also face emotional and mental fatigue brought by isolation, long commutes, and the lack of professional development opportunities. These difficulties often test their commitment and creativity in the teaching profession. Despite these hardships, Last-Mile Schools have found ways to cope with the challenges they encounter. Teachers build strong relationships with the local community, improvise teaching materials, and implement contextualized approaches to instruction. Peer support and teamwork also play a crucial role in sustaining motivation and finding solutions to everyday classroom problems. Their resilience highlights the strength and adaptability of educators in challenging settings,
The participants also shared valuable suggestions and advice for aspiring future educators who may be assigned to Last-Mile Schools. They emphasized the importance of passion, patience, and a positive mindset. Future teachers are encouraged to build connections with leamers and community members, and to always be open to learning and growing from the experience, no matter how difficult it may seem at first.
Ultimately, the study offers a deeper understanding of what it means to teach in a Last-Mile School. The experiences of these educators serve as an inspiration and a reminder of the transformative power of teaching, especially in communities that need it the most. Their stories shed light on the realities of education in the margins and the enduring commitment of those who choose to teach there.
