their professional growth and career sustainability. The research focused on key variables such as schedule management, communication handling, document organization, client inquiry resolution, and technology utilization. The study was conducted in various municipalities of Rizal Province during the Calendar Year
2025. The study addressed questions concerning the demographic profile of
virtual assistants, their self-assessed skills across core functional areas, the issues and challenges they experience in their work, and the type of career development support that could be designed based on the findings. Descriptive summaries were used to present the results, and data analysis was carried out using statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, rank distribution, and weighted mean.
This research employed a descriptive design. The participants consisted of 30 virtual assistants currently working and residing in Rizal Province, selected through convenience sampling. A self-made questionnaire checklist served as the primary research instrument, supported by interview methods. The procedure involved a literature review, validation of the instrument, distribution of survey forms, and data analysis.
Findings revealed that virtual assistants generally rated themselves highly across the five assessed skill areas, based on self-assessment results. The highest average ratings were recorded in client inquiry handling, communication, and document organization. Respondents also indicated strong abilities in using digital tools, maintaining professionalism, and effectively managing schedules.
Despite these self-reported strengths, several challenges were identified, particularly in handling last-minute changes, delayed responses, dealing with unstable internet connections, miscommunication, and issues related to backup
and data recovery:
The research also highlighted that most virtual assistants are young, single
professionals with college-level or completed tertiary education. They reported earning moderate income levels and were engaged in various work arrangements, including full-time, freelance, and part-time roles. Although they demonstrated strong foundational competencies, recurring problems such as time management difficulties, data handling concerns, and pressure from demanding clients were noted as factors that can affect their overall performance and work quality.
Based on these findings, it was concluded that while virtual assistants in Rizal possess solid baseline skills, there remain competency gaps that should be addressed to ensure long-term career success. Areas requiring improvement include advanced technological proficiency, managing high-pressure client
interactions, and implementing more effective time and workload management strategies.
In light of the findings, it is recommended that a structured, accessible, and competency-based career guide framework be developed by local institutions, private sector stakeholders, or virtual assistant networks. This framework should specifically target the identified skill gaps and provide practical resources for continuous upskilling, career advancement, and professional support.
Strengthening the competencies of virtual assistants will enhance their contributions to the digital workforce and support the sustainable growth of remote
work opportunities within Rizal Province.
