This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PBL) in enhancing student engagement, critical thinking, and collaboration in science education. Recognizing Project-Based Learning's potential to develop 21st-century skills, the research focused on its implementation and impact in two national high schools, Tagumpay and San Jose. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining surveys and interviews to gather quantitative and qualitative data from 10 teachers and 20 students. The quantitative data examined the level of Project-Based Learning implementation, while qualitative data explored challenges, opportunities, and feedback related to the use of Project-Based Learning educational standards, and encouraging student independence. Teachers and students reported that Project-Based Learning significantly improved student engagement, collaboration, and practical application of scientific concepts.
However, challenges like limited time, resource shortages, and issues with student participation were observed. Despite these difficulties, Project-Based Learning was recognized as an effective pedagogical approach that fosters active leaming and prepares students for real-world challenges. The study recommends continuous teacher training and better resource management to fully maximize the benefits of Project-Based Learning in science education.
