This study had aimed to evaluate the effects of Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ) on the growth performance of Pekin ducks in experimental research using the Randomized Block Design (RBD) for each three treatments it has three replications, resulting to a total of nine experimental units. The study included three treatments: Treatment 1 received pure water, Treatment 2 received 15 ml of Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ), and Treatment 3 received 25 ml of Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ) both treatments were diluted in 1L of water and each treatment consisted of 15 Pekin ducks. The study was conducted in Sitio Sapa, Brgy. San Rafael, Rodriguez, Rizal. It lasted for 93 days, from September 4 to December 5. The Pekin ducks were fed commercially available feed in ad libitum manner, along with treated water.
The objective of the study was to assess the growth performance of Pekin ducks given with varying levels of Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ) in terms of feed consumption, average daily gain, feed conversion efficiency, water consumption, net income, feed cost per kilogram, cost of production and return of investment supplemented with 15 and 25 ml FFJ both diluted in 1L of water.
The experiment results showed the effects of Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ) on the growth performance of pekin duck in terms of feed consumption it showed that Treatment 1 got the highest mean with 19.20 kg followed by Treatment 3 (18.98 kg) and lastly in treatment 2 has the lowest mean with 18.98 kg. The average daily weight gain in treatments 1, 2, and 3 was 0.16, 0.17 and 0.16 kg, respectively. In terms of Feed conversion efficiency, the results showed all treatment groups had the same outcomes, with a mean of 0.18. Lastly in terms of water consumption Treatment 3 had the highest mean (126.19 L), followed by Treatment 2 (125.33 L), while Treatment 1 had a mean of 124.25 L.
The researchers utilized ANOVA as a statistical instrument to compare the data collected between the three treatments to know the difference. The study had shown no significant difference in terms of feed consumption, average daily gain, feed conversion efficiency and water consumption on the growth performance of pekin ducks. It indicated that the null hypothesis was accepted.
In terms of economic profitability, Treatment 2 has the highest net income with 3,424.36, followed by Treatment 1 with 3,253.06. Lastly, Treatment 3 had the lowest net income, with P2,732.06. In terms of feed cost per kilogram of live weight produced, treatment 2 has the lowest with P146.97, followed by treatment 3 with P152.32, while treatment 1 has the highest mean with P155.47. Then, in the cost of production of Pekin Duck for all three treatments, Treatment 1 had the lowest production cost (P11,866.94), followed by Treatment 2 (P12,091.64), while the highest cost of production was from Treatment 3 (P12,507.94). Lastly, in terms of ROI, it showed that treatment 2 had the highest ROI with 28.32%, followed by treatment 1 (27.41%), and treatment 3 had the lowest ROI (21.84%).
Based on the findings, the researchers observed that the results among the three treatments were generally similar. The researchers recommended using a higher amount of Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ) than the standard dosage typically given to animals. Additionally, utilize different animal species and focus on specific types of fruits to further investigate the effects of FFJ on animal health.
