Thesis Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering University of Rizal System-Morong 2023
This undergraduate thesis’ paper sole purpose is the design and development of paper shredder machine with automated disposing system. The study discusses the conceptualization, design, and development process of the machine, including the selection of materials, fabrication process, and software programming. To test the acceptability of this study, the researchers include functional suitability, maintainability, performance efficiency, portability and usability as their variables. The study includes the creation of user's manual of the machine to provide essential information to users on how to operate and maintain the shredder properly. This research was conducted at the University of Rizal System Morong Campus during the School Year 2022-2023. The researchers developed a device that could shred paper together with an automated disposing and control system that automatically disposes of paper waste to the bin. The user may access the control system through the user interface which shows the visual monitoring that indicates whether the device is accepting paper or rolling it into the bin. The shredded paper is detected by the ultrasonic sensor placed inside the casing of the shredder that connects to the conveyor roller that will continuously move towards the bin as long as there is still paper detected. The device will continue to accept the paper shredding and disposing process. However, once the ultrasonic sensor placed on the bin alarms that the bin reached its filling capacity, the user must place new garbage bag. As part of the research survey, the questionnaire checklist was given to thirty-one (31) respondents from the University of Rizal System, Morong, Rizal who are experts from the faculty of engineering, end users from the accounting office and students. According to the experts from the faculty of engineering, end users from the accounting office and students, the Paper Shredding Machine with Automated Disposing System is highly acceptable in terms of the study's five variables, which includes the system’s functional suitability, maintainability, performance efficiency, portability, and usability. To build the device, the researchers employed a paper shredder, microcontroller, ultrasonic sensor, synchronous motor and conveyor roller. The system aimed to be implemented at the University of Rizal System - Morong, Rizal. The design and development of Paper Shredder Machine with Automated Disposing System was considered Highly Acceptable with the following result of the level of acceptability in terms of functional suitability with an average weighted mean of 3.80. Maintainability with an average weighted mean of 3.82. Performance efficiency with an average weighted mean of 3.81. In terms of portability, which has a 3.67 average weighted mean. Lastly, the usability with a 3.84 average weighted mean. All are interpreted as Highly Acceptable. Based on the summary of the design outcome, the researchers find out that the developed machine is efficient, functional, and safe in shredding paper documents, and the automated disposing system is effective in managing the shredded paper waste. For the user's convenience and to ensure that the device will function in its maximum capability, it should be placed in a leveled area. The results of this study will provide valuable insights into the design and development of a paper shredding machine that can improve the waste disposal system of companies, institutions and organizations. The researchers found out that the paper shredder machine with automated disposing system is more efficient and user-friendly than conventional paper shredder. It can hold more paper waste and saves time for users. It is highly acceptable to users in terms of functional suitability, maintainability, performance efficiency, portability, and usability. The researchers recommend further studies to improve the design, cost, and user experience of the paper shredder machine with automated disposing system, to make the machine more compact and affordable, to develop a more convenient and effective way to control the disposing time, to create a more detailed user's manual, to develop a more advanced disposing system and alarm system, and to study the feasibility of using an IOT for the alarm of the developed machine.
