Dissertation note: Undergraduate Thesis Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English University of Rizal System, Rodriguez, Rizal 2014 Summary: This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of thematic teaching in English in grade 8 of General Licerio Geronimo Memorial National High School. The researchers used the experimental method and single group design. This study was conducted in General Licerio Geronimo Memorial National High School during the School Year 2014-2015 with the total of 30 respondents comprising selected grade 8 students for the effectiveness of thematic teaching with regards to pre-test and post-test. This study was conducted to determine the mean scores of the student respondents as revealed by the pre-test and post-test in the selected lessons rendered to grade 8 Chico from the Module 3 of Learning Material in English for Grade 8 (Afro-Asian Literature) collaboratively You sent developed and reviewed by educators from public and private schools, colleges, and/or universities. The study was conducted to determine the mean scores of the experimental group during pre-test and post-test in the selected topics from the said module. And finally, it also sought to determine the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the experimental group. On the mean scores of the respondents, pretest had 14.77 while the post-test had 28.85. On the significant difference between mean scores, the null hypothesis is rejected because the p-value 0.001 is less than 0.05 level of significance. Based on the summary of findings, the following conclusions were ascertained: The students performed better during their post-test than their pre-test. There is a significant difference between the performances of the students in pre-test and post-test. Therefore, thematic teaching is an effective approach in educating the learners. In line with the aforementioned conclusions, the researchers recommend the following: The school administrations must conduct seminars on how to implement thematic teaching. The Teachers of English should be accustomed in using thematic teaching as their approach in educating their learners. The Students should appreciate the help of thematic teaching in the teaching-learning process. To validate the result of this study, future researchers are encouraging the other researchers to conduct related studies on how to use thematic teaching at its best.
