Instructional kits are vital tools in modern education that enhance student engagement and understanding through hands-on, interactive learning. They help connect theoretical concepts to real-world applications, support diverse learning styles, and promote active, inquiry-based, and collaborative learning Particularly effective in foundational subjects like math, science, and literacy these kits improve comprehension, retention, and critical thinking skills
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a developed instructional kit in enhancing the basic numeracy skills of Grade 5 students A mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design was employed. A total of 147 students from 14 sections were selected and divided into three groups: a control group and two experimental groups. The experimental groups received instruction using the instructional kit, while the control group was taught through conventional methods. The tools used in the study included the instructional kit, as well as pre-test and post-test assessments. Upon collecting the data, the researcher applied both descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (dependent and independent t-tests), utilizing SPSS version 21 with assistance from the University of Rizal System Statistics Center. T-test analyses were conducted to compare the pre-test and post-test performances between the control and experimental groups, using a significance level of p<0.05. The results indicated positive and significant differences, leading to the conclusion that instruction using the developed kit was more effective than conventional teaching methods, particularly in improving student performance in technical subjects
Teachers are encouraged to use the instructional kit to support students with basic numeracy challenges, while students should actively engage with its activities to improve understanding School administrators are advised to provide resources and training to ensure effective implementation. This research can be used as literature for future researchers to investigate the long-term effects of the instructional kit and explore possible improvements to enhance its effectiveness and relevance.
