EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: In this study, the researchers thoroughly studied the compressive strength of concrete hollow blocks, they came with the idea of making a hollow block composed of sand, cement and plastic bottle with compacted soil inside. The researchers aimed to develop a Concrete Hollow Block (CHB) that is of greater strength compared to commercial hollow block by using recycled plastic bottles. Experimental method was used in the study, the process involved knowledge and principles in experimenting and utilizing in material testing. First, the researchers made a comparison between four different types of soil compacted inside the plastic bottles namely: dry soil, moist soil, saturated soil and super saturated soil. Next, the blocks that the researchers developed were put under the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) in E.B Testing Center, Inc. in Pasig City to determine the compressive strength of the concrete hollow block with plastic bottle to support their idea that it can be a replacement to a commercial concrete hollow block. The researchers found out that the blocks had exceeded the compressive strength of normal blocks, which is 800 psi while the developed block came with the result of 1044 psi thus supporting the idea of the researchers that they can provide the same or greater compressive strength compared with the commercial concrete hollow blocks. The analysis showed that the material developed can be a replacement to a commercial concrete hollow block that was used in construction.
