Undergraduate Thesis
The study aimed to determine the Performance of Grade 7 Students in Science Lectures and Laboratory Activities. This was conducted during the first grading of the school year 2015-2016 at Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma High School with 150 randomly selected students served as respondents of the study.
This study used the descriptive-comparative method and descriptive-evaluative research design utilizing a sixty item multiple choice type of test and five sets of laboratory activities prepared by the researchers based on the following topics in Science 7 Solutions, Pure Substances and Mixtures, Elements and Compounds, Acids and Bases and, Metals and Non-metals. Based on the gathered, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted data. The performance of the respondents in science lectures got a mean of 26 42 with the verbal interpretation of Beginning while the performance of the respondents in laboratory activities with the computed mean of 96.4 was Approaching Proficiency
On the significant relationship, the computed, p-value of 0.055 which is above 0.05 level of significance, hence the null hypothesis was failed to be rejected
On the significant difference, the computed t-value is 7.0652 while the p-value is 001 which is belowo 05 level of significance Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected
Based on the summary of findings, the following conclusions were drawn
The performance of grade 7 students in laboratory activities was approaching proficiency while the performance in science lectures was beginning
The performance of the students in laboratory activities and science lectures were independent of each other. The respondents learn better when applying a theory rather than just listen to a lecture.
On the basis of conclusions drawn out of the findings, the following are hereby recommended: The students should participate in the science activities of their school for them to enhance their performance in both science lectures and laboratory activities. Teachers should make necessary adjustments in their teaching since students are more inclined to learning by doing. The school administrator should provide some intervention programs that helps students to enhance their performance since they learned by doing The Parents should involve their students in some science practical application Lastly, the future researchers should employ the information as their prime guide to support and improve their study
