This study sought to design an automatic dimensioning device that can accurately measure the dimensions of parcels and to compute its volumetric weight based on the shopping platform’s specifications. It tests the performance of the automatic dimensioning device in terms of the time of measuring procedure, the accuracy of the measuring procedure, and the precision of the measuring procedure to determine the effectiveness of the device in measuring the volumetric weight of the parcel and help logistics warehouse employees accurately cross-check declared weights on parcels being processed in the warehouse. It also tested the effectiveness of the developed automatic dimensioning device in terms of functional suitability, performance efficiency, reliability, usability, and maintainability. The developed automatic dimensioning device was tested for 4 days with 5 trials on each parcel and evaluated by 33 individual respondents at J&T Express Warehouse located at Barangay Palangoy, Binangonan, Rizal. In guiding the study in attaining the intended objectives, developmental and descriptive approaches were considered. The developed automatic dimensioning device consists of a conveyor belt system, sensors, microcontroller, button module, LCD, and printing module. It was evaluated through a research- modified questionnaire and determined through a weighted mean formula. Based on the result of the testing developed automatic dimensioning device, it is more efficient in terms of the time of measuring procedure than measuring it manually. However, the device was lacking in terms of accuracy of measuring procedure due to the sensor's sensitivity, as determined by measuring the parcel's dimensions from the device's reference point. The parcel's weight is too much for the conveyor belt to support, which could cause it to decline. As a result, the device's reference point is unstable, which leads to negligible variations in the parcel's dimensions. However, despite this, its usefulness has been demonstrated by its ability to yield desired outcomes that are reasonably close to the parcel's actual volumetric weight. Lastly, the device can provide precise results based on the data that is gathered by the researchers. The automatic dimensioning device with a volumetric weight indicator was evaluated by respondents for its functional suitability, with an average weighted mean of 3.67, which is interpreted as highly acceptable. Regarding Performance Efficiency, with an average weighted mean of 3.48 and verbally interpreted as highly acceptable. In terms of reliability of the developed device with average weighted mean of 3.58 and are verbally interpreted as highly acceptable. In terms of usability, the development device has an average weighted mean of 3.55 and is verbally interpreted as highly acceptable. In terms of maintainability, with an average weighted mean of 3.48 and interpreted as highly acceptable. Based on the summary of the design results, the following conclusions were established; The study successfully developed an automatic dimensioning device that is bounded in size of 216 by 93.5 cm, which also utilized an ultrasonic sensor, microcontroller, button modules, LCD display, and printing module. The device is designed with a flat belt conveyor, that is bounded in size of 400 cm length by 46 cm width, with a drive pulley, driven pulley and rollers. A 1.5 HP, 1750 rpm, and 220 V Electric Motor together with a Worm Gear reducer with a ratio of 1:60 connected under the flat belt conveyor was also utilized. The device can accurately measure and compute the volumetric weight of the parcel. The researchers successfully developed a user’s manual for utilization of the automatic dimensioning device which includes the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the device needed by the operator; the developed automatic dimensioning device was tested in terms of time of measuring procedure and concluded that the device is more efficient than measuring manually. However, the device was lacking in terms of accuracy of measuring procedure due to the sensitivity of the sensor resulting in an unstable reference point. On the other hand, it continued to demonstrate its usefulness by yielding values that are reasonably near to the parcel's actual volumetric weight. Lastly, based on the data that has been gathered, the device is providing precise results of the computed volumetric weight of the parcel; the developed device was rated and has a verbal interpretation of highly acceptable by thirty-three (33) respondents and agreed that the effectiveness of the developed automatic dimensioning device with a volumetric weight indicator was highly acceptable in terms of functional suitability, performance efficiency, reliability, usability, and maintainability. Based on the findings and conclusion derived, the researchers recommend the following; the researchers suggest developing a design of conveyor system that utilizes another type of mechanism to ensure the stability of the parcel when placed in the platform; the researchers suggest to use a substitute component for the sensor to lessen the sensitivity, thus attaining more accurate results; the researchers recommend to consider additional logistics company and another shopping platform to be included in the study to broaden the application of the developed device; the researchers recommend conducting further research and development to have a manageable and conducive way of operating the developed device to attain more accurate results in terms of measuring the dimensions and volumetric weight of the parcel.
