EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The thesis entitled Laundry Color Segregation for Visually Impaired Achromatopsia is an innovative study aimed at developing a device that can assist individuals with Achromatopsia in segregating their laundry into white, light, and dark colored clothes. The primary objective of this research is to design and create a device that is specifically tailored to the needs of these individuals, thereby enhancing their independence and quality of life. The study further aims to test the performance of the developed device in several key areas. These include voice assistance, which is vital for visually impaired users, color accuracy, which determines the effectiveness of the device in segregating clothes based on color, and capacity management, which assesses the device's ability to handle different volumes of laundry. In addition to performance testing, the study also seeks to evaluate the level of acceptability of the device among potential users. This evaluation was based on several variables, including functional suitability, which measures how well the device meets the needs of its users, reliability, which assesses the device's consistency in performance, usability, which evaluates the simplicity of use of the device, and maintainability, which examines the ease of maintaining and servicing the device. The researchers utilized a combination of descriptive and developmental type of research method. In developing the device, the main hardware components are ESP32, ultrasonic sensor, and servo motor. In order to produce a great result of the study, the researchers gathered all the information on the internet, books, journals, and consulted experts about the project. The Laundry Color Segregation for Visually Impaired Achromatopsia was developed to help individuals with vision impairments sort laundry more independently. Testing showed that while the device effectively identified white and black, it had difficulty with similar shades due to sensor sensitivity, lighting, and fabric texture. Voice assistance improved accessibility but occasionally gave incorrect outputs. The device managed standard loads well but struggled with bulky garments due to design limitations. Despite these challenges, it received high ratings for functionality, reliability, usability, and maintenance, proving to be a practical and user-friendly solution. The positive feedback highlights its potential for further improvements and wider adoption, making laundry tasks easier and more accessible. The findings of this study highlight the development of a system designed to assist visually impaired individuals, particularly those with achromatopsia, in segregating laundry by color. The device uses a color sensor to classify laundry as light or dark based on RGB values. While it performed well in identifying white and black colors, inconsistencies were observed in detecting shades of pink and orange. The researchers recommend several enhancements to improve the Laundry Color Segregation device. First, they suggest improving its ability to sort clothes automatically, even in piles, and offering customizable color recognition settings to accommodate varying degrees of color vision deficiency. Second, they propose developing a more durable device capable of handling heavy garments by using reinforced partitions and high-torque servo motors. Third, they recommend adding the option for Tagalog language support in audio prompts and user manuals to increase accessibility for Tagalog-speaking users.
