Summary
This study aimed to determine the challenges encountered by the Grade-5 Public Elementary School Pupils in their Online Learning and how they overcame those challenges in this School Year 2020-2021. There were 15 respondents from Grade-5 Emerald in San Isidro Elementary School located at San Isidro Rodriguez, Rizal.
In this study, the researchers used descriptive evaluative research utilizing descriptive qualitative design guided by a research questionnaire. The researchers interviewed the respondents via google meet to determine the challenges they encountered during online learning and how they overcome those challenges.
Based upon the data that were gathered, interpreted and analyzed, the profile of respondents in terms of age, it ranged from 11 to 12 years old. In terms of sex, female respondents outnumbered the males. In terms of available gadgets in the house, most of the respondents used cell phones. In terms of number of siblings, most of the respondents are having more than 3 in the family. the challenges encountered by respondents in their online learning are distractions in surroundings, difficulties in academic performances and understanding the lessons, and poor connectivity. According to the response of the pupils in the questionnaire, respondents answered that they overcome those challenges by reviewing and understanding the lesson on their own, practicing and reading about the topic, and to seek the help of parents on online classes and activities.
From the findings, the researchers concluded that the pupils have their own means of attending their online classes, pupils are confronted with the pressing challenges in their online learning in which the academic performances are affected, and pupils have their own strategies in overcoming those challenges they encountered in their online learning.
Guided by the result of the study and the aforementioned conclusions, the researchers offered recommendations. As to the pupils, they should learn how to focus on their lesson's despite many distractions during online learning. With regards to the teachers, they should use effective strategies and techniques in teaching which are easy for the student to understand the lesson, and they should encourage their students to be active in attending and participating in
online classes and motivate themselves to study. With respect to the parents. they should guide and support their children in managing their time to do their school work and to maintain good grades in their school Regarding telecommunications, they should provide good services and excellent internet. connection to the users since the users paid for their fee appropriately. As regards the administrators, they should give attention to the school curriculum on how to implement an effective teaching-learning process, and for the future researchers, they may conduct the same research study using other positive variables. They may also delve into empirical data than perceptions alone to further deepen the study, thus making it more reliable
