The research was conducted during the school year 2017 - 2018 in the University of Rizal System in Morong, Rizal. The subjects of the study are randomly selected Grade 7 students who came from six (6) out of twelve (12) different sections enrolled in Tanay National High School. The level of communicative competence of the respondents in terms of grammatical/linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse and strategic respect to different aspects in sex, 3rd quarter grade in English and monthly family income served as the focus of the study. Two - way ANOVA was the statistical tool used to answer problems in line with the study. The study revealed that most of the factors identified in the study have no significant effect. In terms of grammatical or linguistic competence, sex has significant effect, and in sociolinguistic, monthly family income has a significant effect on the present level of the communicative competence of the Grade 7 students in Tanay National High School. Based from the summary of findings the following conclusions were drawn: Many of the respondents belong to a family with low economic status. Also, the communicative competence of the students can still be improved or enhanced. Lastly, sex and monthly family income are considered factors on the grammatical/linguistic and sociolinguistic competence of the respondents. This is therefore, recommended that the proposed program may be adapted by the public secondary schools to strengthen the utilization of the communicative competence of the students, and also non-academic program that could challenge and develop the students' communicative competence. The English Department may also craft or design more programs and activities. And further or parallel study may be conducted considering other variable which are not used in the study. | ||
