520 _aEXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The study aimed to determine the cytotoxicity of Eleusine indica (PARAGIS) onion root meristems and how this relates to human health since paragis is viral folklorically and thus, more people consumes the said plant. It was conducted at the University of Rizal System Morong Rizal and University of the Philippines Diliman during the school year 2017-2018. The study used descriptive and experimental design to analyze the cytotoxicity of different concentrations of Eleusine indica on onion root meristems. It started with the collection of Eleusine indica in different sites notably Tanay and Morong Rizal. The extraction of Eleusine indica is held at laboratory room 1, College of Science New Building for the room was equipped with an oven dryer and provides a safe place for the study to conduct. The utilization of Allium test and Brine Shrimp Lethality Assay was held at room TITLE: AUTHORS: COURSE AND ACADEMIC YEAR: TOTAL NUMBER OF PAGES: TYPE OF DOCUMENT: NAME AND ADRESS OF INSTITUTION 206 at the Institute of Biology, University of the Philippines Diliman for there were fully equipped and an assistant that instruct the researchers the proper protocol for the cytotoxicity test. Brine shrimps and onion root meristems were the subjects tested by the cytotoxicity of Eleusine indica for brine shrimps are used as bio indicator of general toxicity and bioactive compounds and onions have few chromosome and its cellular division and chromosomal aberration have high correlation to humans. Linear regression analysis was used to predict the LC50 and EC50. Value together with the One Sample T test, and Mean and Standard Deviation to determine the significance of mitotic index and chromosomal aberrations in different concentrations of Eleusine indica , and the positive control. Linear regression showed that the LC50 in the brine shrimp assay is observed at 412.5 µg/ml indicating that the plant is cytotoxic while the Ec50 value of allium roots is 332 µg/ml which is used as treatments in microscopic analysis One Sampled T test show that 100% EC50 is the only treatment that does not significantly differ in the positive control in terms for mitotic index while all aberrant cells were significant in all treatments and positive control. The results revealed that paragis is non mutagenic but cytotoxic when consumed in high concentrations
