520 _aABSTRACT This study was intended towards the determination of the aboveground carbon stock in the Pugahan (Caryota griffinthii Becc.). The study was conducted at Sitio Masalat, Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal. Ten Pugahan samples were used in the study. Only those with not less than 5 feet and not more than ten (10) feet in height were considered for the purpose of the study. In the formulation of the allometric equation, three (3) Pugahan samples were considered in the computation of the fix values. The samples were weighed in their green and dry conditions, and their height were measured. The data obtained were subjected to regression analysis. Pugahan (Caryota griffinthii Becc.) was observed to be growing well in the area and distributed either as solitary or in cluster. Aside from the mature plants, wildlings of the species were also observed growing in the area. Using the developed allometric equation, it was found out that as compared to other plant species, trees in particular; Pugahan has a lower capability to absorb and store carbon.
