| 520 | _aABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the performance of the BSE-English Major in the Pre-Board Examination of the University of Rizal System for the School Year 2012 - 2016. Seventy-one (71) Bachelor of Secondary Education students were purposively utilized. Descriptive research design was used employing as well, documentary analysis was the process used, frequency, percentage and rank and mean as statistical tools. Salient findings of the study were as follows: More than 40 percent of the respondents are 19 years old, females, who are single and most of the respondents QPA falls on the average grade bracket of 2.0 - 2.4. Majority of the students who took up the Pre-Board Examination were dominated on the year 2015 - 2016. As to their performance on the three salient areas, the respondents "passed" the General Education on the year 2012 - 2013, 2013 - 2014, 2015 - 2016 while the batch of 2014 - 2015, "failed" the examination. On Professional Education, the respondents "passed" the examination from 2012 - 2016, along with their Major. As to their performance when grouped according to profile, regardless of age, the Pre-Board overall average result in four consecutive school years was "passed" in the three salient areas. Regardless of sex, their overall average results in four consecutive school years was "passed" in the three salient areas, along with the civil status, QPA, and year were the examination was taken. Moreover, the QPA of the respondents obtained a "passed" performance of 2.0, 2.11, 1.99 and 2.09 in the four following years: 2012 - 2013, 2013 - 2014, 2014 - 2015, and 2015 - 2016. And the congruency between QPA and Pre-Board Examination result were very ideal and likely expected, thus it shows the connection of the QPA and the Pre-Board Examination result were as if their QPA is high then it is likely and satisfyingly achievable for a higher Pre-Board result. Based on the findings, the following conclusions were drawn. Most of the respondents belong to majority age, females, single, with a 2.0 - 2.4 QPA, and with a much number of takers on the year 2015 - 2016; BSE-English students in University of Rizal System - Tanay got a passed performance in the Pre-Board Examination for four consecutive years; Based on the findings and conclusions, the researchers offered the following recommendations: A higher level of academic performance or QPA of the respondents may be maintained in order to achieve a higher level of the performance in the Pre - Board Examination; The BSE- English majors should attend a Competency Building Course (CBC) review subject to assure a higher percentage of passing rate and to be prepared before they take up the Pre board Examination; The College of Science and Education should continue the policy of teaching the Competency building Course (CBC) in order to have a high performance in the Pre- Board Examination and the syllabi may be continually enhanced in order to get higher academic achievement leading to a higher performance in the Pre - Board Examination; The College of Science and Education should have a study about the Pre - Board Examination beyond the school year of 2016 -2017; and another study may be conducted for the succeeding periods to continuously evaluate teacher education curriculum considering other variables such as the URS CAT, URS QE, LET and Employment status with a deeper study of researches. | ||
