This type of instruction teaches students strategies to decipher the meaning of new words, to make use of the vocabulary themselves and to practice using the words in different contexts both verbally and in writing that results in stronger independent reading skills This study aimed to enhance the reading comprehension skills of Grade 8 students through the implementation of explicit vocabulary instruction at Maligaya High School for the School Year 2022-2023. The research employed a mixed method sequential explanatory design and random sampling technique in determining the participants of the study Explicit vocabulary instruction was utilized in the experimental group while the control group received conventional teaching lessons. The study revealed a significant improvement in reading comprehension skills within the experimental group, emphasizing the positive impact of explicit vocabulary instruction. The sample was selected through simple random sampling, comprised 60 students from a total 240 students who were under the "frustration" level, who served as respondents for the study. A purposive sampling technique was utilized for 15 participants to determine their feedback in using explicit vocabulary instruction. Data collection involved the use of the Phil-IRI test, along with teacher-made instruments, including a 50-item multiple-choice pretest and posttest, and a questionnaire for interview purposes. | ||
