CLAVANO, JEMMA B. GARADO, ROSE C. Course: BACHELOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION MAJOR IN MATHEMATICS Type of Document: UNDERGRADUATE THESIS Number of pages: 88 Name and Address Of School: UNIVERSITY OF RIZAL SYSTEM-RODRIGUEZ CAMPUS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AMITYVILLE SUBD., SAN JOSE RODRIGUEZ, RIZAL Summary: The study aimed to determine the Problem-Solving skills of Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Mathematics students of University of Rizal System Rodriguez Campus. The descriptive evaluative of research and qualitative research method were used in describing the level of problem-solving skills of students from Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics. Based on the data gathered Based on the data gathered from the respondents, the following findings were summarized as follows: The number of respondents has equally distributed in terms of year level. The majority of therespondents belong in 81-85 previous grades in Mathematics and the minority is below 80. The Level of problem-solving skills of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics students in University of Rizal System Rodriguez Campus is satisfactory. Among different year levels, second-year students constitute a large portion of the population of students who mastered different competencies in College and Advanced Algebra. Based on the rubrics, Level II: Planning a Solution has the majority of respondents who reached this skill. The feedback of the respondents showed that Solving problems involving Linear and Quadratic Equations found the most difficult problems to solve. The Guess and Check method was the most used strategy in solving word problems. Solving problems needs a lot of time to solve. Based on the findings of the study, the researchers concluded that: The result shows the appropriate and unbiased distribution of the respondents. The previous grades of BSED-Mathematics are in average level. The BSED-Math students have enough skill in solving different problem in College and Advanced Algebra thereby reflecting a satisfactory problemsolving ability. The BSED-Math students have reached the problem solving skills of Level II: Planning a solution. The BSED-Math students have different approach to the problem, and have different competencies that need to be enhanced. Based on the results of the study, the following recommendations are hereby offered by the researchers; Students. They should practice more solving word problems to further develop the problem-solving skills. Parents. They should inspire their children by giving their full support in all aspects. Teachers. they should craft remarkable strategies in their teachings or lectures that will encourage the students to strive harder in developing their problem-solving skills. The school administrator. They should conduct activities that would enhance the problem-solving ability of the students. Future Researchers. Further studies should also be conducted for the improvement of the study Sent 51
