In this study, the researchers used both Quali-Quantitative method or also known as Mixed Method and sequential explanatory design. It was carried out using three types of questionnaires: first the respondents' profile; second, a questionnaire adopted and modified by the researchers to determine the language proficiency of first-year students; and third, interview guide questions where researchers asked open-ended questions about how specifically the respondents profile influenced their language proficiency as a first-year student. Based from the data gathered in the study and the following finding were obtained; the respondents were mostly female consisting of 80% of the population meanwhile the male students consist only 20% of the population and most of them had 90-94 previous general average in English. In regards with the results of the study, the following conclusions were concluded by the researchers that the respondents fell within the "Advanced" category in terms of vocabulary proficienc with an average score of 5,66, an average score of 10 indicating the " Superior" category in terms of grammar proficiency, and "Novice" category with an overall average score of 1.98 in terms of reading compreension with that the researchers concluded that the respondents fell within "Intermediate" category with an average score of 18.2 of the total of the population in terms of their language proficiency where in the majority of the participants clearly stated that they are not confident enough when they are using English as their medium of communication and from their diverse household they prefer using their native language rather than English. With that, the participants only used English as their medium of communication when they are inside the school since it is a prerequisite to the course that they've taken; Meanwhile, They have mastered the basics of using the English language; however, they need to be exposed more to meaningful activities and varied texts to attain a higher level of proficiency in English. Based on the conclusions that were concluded; the researchers may recommend for the Administrators that they may allocate resources for professional development opportunities that empower educators with effective strategies for addressing diverse language proficiency levels. For the Teachers, they may implement differentiated instructional strategies to cater to varying English Language Proficiency providing additional support for students with lower previous grades in English ensuring challenges for those with higher grades. For the students, they may cultivate a habit of reading, actively participate in class discussions. For the researchers, they may investigate effective language learning strategies, explore the impact of technology in language education, and assess the integration of cultural competency into language learning. For the parents, they may foster an English language environment at home, support extracurricular language activities, and expose children to diverse cultural experiences to enhance their language skills. Lastly, for the Future Researchers, they may explore the effectiveness of targeted interventions to address the English language proficiency of the students. Conduct longitudinal studies on the long-term impact of language education, and evaluate various pedagogical strategies to identify the most effective methods for improving language proficiency. | ||
