520 _aThis study aimed to find out the level of effectiveness of song as a motivation in Essay writing among Grade 9 students of San Jose National High School. The respondents were composed of two sections: Grade 9 Taal with 30 students and Grade 9 Tirad with 30 students with the total of 60 students. The researchers used the experimental method using Essay type of test prepared by the researchers based on the topic of Grade 9 English Lesson 4, Coping with the Challenges. The problems were discussed utilizing the appropriate statistical tools such as frequency and percentage distribution to determine the number of students who got the mean score in pretest and posttest. T-test was used to reveal the significant difference on the level of performance of the respondents. The experimental method with the pretest-posttest Control Group design was used to conduct the study. A questionnaire was used as instrument in gathering data. Data were gathered, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. The effectiveness of song as motivation in Essay writing got the mean score of 8.36 in posttest by the first group (Grade 9 Taal) while the mean score of 8.8 in posttest by the second group (Grade 9 Tirad). The results imply that song as motivation is not effective insofar as the experimental group is concerned. The null hypothesis of the two groups failed to be rejected. There is no significant difference between the performance of control group (Grade 9 Taal) and experimental group (Grade 9 Tirad). The level of effectiveness of song as motivation in essay writing among Grade 9 students is no effective. Based on the summary of findings, the following conclusions are drawn, Song as motivation does not enhance the performance of the students in essay writing. Song does not affect the performance of Grade 9 students in Essay writing. Song is not really an effective motivation in Essay writing among Grade 9 students. On the basis of the conclusions drawn out of the findings, the following are hereby recommended: Teachers should think of other strategies to motivate students in improving their skills. Preparation of instructional materials to supplement the needs of the learners should be considered. The principal of the school should consider intervention program to improve students' skills. Students should be aware on their performance in school. They should be intrinsic and extrinsic motivated to improve their skills. Parents should monitor their children's performance in school so they can motivate if they need improvements.
