Undergraduate Thesis

This study aimed to assess the precautionary measures implemented by the teachers for the safety of their pupils against Environmental/Natural Disaster and Man-made/ People Inflicted Disaster. This was conducted at Wawa Elementary School Rodriguez, Rizal with 100 pupils from Grades IV, V and VI randomly selected during the School Year 2014-2015.

Descriptive Method was utilized in the study. The main instrument used was a questionnaire-checklist in order to gather data on the implementation of precautionary measures. Appropriate statistical treatment was used in this study: to determine the profile of the respondents, frequency and percentage distribution was used; to know precautionary measures being implemented, weighted mean was utilized; to know the significant difference, independent T-test and one-way ANOVA were applied.

From the gathered data, the following are the consolidated findings. On the profile of the respondents, in terms of sex, most of the respondents were female with the frequency of 45 or 45 percent while males had a frequency of 55 or 55 percent. Obviously, females dominated male respondents. In terms of grade level, most of the respondents were Grade VI students with the frequency of 40 or 40 percent while Grades IV and V had the same frequency of 30 or 30 percent. In terms of birth order, most of the respondents belonged to 3rd order with a frequency of 28 or 28 percent. It was followed by 2nd order with a frequency of 23 or 23 percent. Then, those who belonged to 1st order came next with a frequency of 21 or 21 percent. Lastly, were those who belonged to 8th order with a frequency of 3 or 3 percent. With regard to the precautionary measures implemented by teachers for the safety of the pupils, top among the precautionary measures implemented for the safety of the pupils in terms of Environmental Natural Disaster was Public System of the school is always functional in case of emergency with a mean of 4.5 verbally interpreted always. It was followed by Classes are automatically suspended for typhoon signal number 1 with a mean of 4.15. In terms of man-made/ people inflicted disaster, among the precautionary measures implemented by teachers for the safety of pupils, Pupils are oriented on the proper flow of traffic during emergency topped among them with a mean of 4.65. It was followed by Encouraging the students to learn basic self- defense with a mean of 4.6. Both dialogs with the parents are conducted in order to encourage them to help the school in the implementation of Precautionary Measures and The school coordinates with the local government for additional security followed with the same mean of 4.25. They were verbally interpreted as always.

There was no significant difference in the implementation of precautionary measures for pupils' safety in Wawa Elementary School as sees in their p-values that were greater than the .05 level of significance such as in terms of Environmental/Natural Disaster, grade level had 765 and birth order had 997. In terms of Man-made/People Inflicted, grade level had 899 and birth order had 995.

From the enumerated findings, the following conclusions were drawn: Most of the respondents are the eldest in the family. Indeed, they are reliable to give feedback on the implementation of precautionary measures in their school. Wawa Elementary School is implementing precautionary measures often to address environmental/natural disasters through suspension of classes for typhoon signals and man-made/people inflicted disasters through strict inspection of guard to the students upon entry in school. Regardless of sex, grade level and birth order, the respondents perceived the implementation of precautionary measures similarly.

The following recommendations are offered based on the findings and the conclusions cited previously: Parents should be cooperative to the school for the effective and efficient implementation of its different programs like Precautionary Measures against nature and man-made disasters. Pupils should be alert and obedient in following all the Precautionary Measures being implemented in the school for their absolute safety. School administrators should always be strictly on guard with regard to implementation of school policies particularly on pupils' safety. Future researchers may conduct the same study using other possible variables in order to deepen the findings of the study.
