Undergraduate Thesis

This study aimed to identify the science process skills used by grade 7 students during their laboratory experiments in General Licerio Memorial National High School during school 2015-2016. It involved 20 students who served as the respondents of the study.

The study utilized descriptive qualitative method of research with the use of the adopted rubrics as the main instrument in gathering the data. Ten (10) sets of adopted experiments were given to the respondents that determined who exhibited their different skills in performing the laboratory experiments.

Based on the gathered data of this research the following findings were obtained:

In terms on the profile of the respondents according to sex, researchers determined that eight out of twenty (20) respondents are male and twelve (12) are female. And in terms of Grade in Science, among the twelve (12) female respondents, three (3) got the grades of ninety two (22) and eighty (80; and two (2) got the grades of ninety (91) one and eighty five (85); and one (1) of them got the grades of eighty two (82) and eighty eight (88). Similarly, male respondents, two (2) of them got the grades of ninety (91) one and eighty one (81) and one (1) of them got the grades of eighty eight (88); eighty five (85), eighty (80) and eighty two (82).

In terms of Science Process Skills, based on the instrument used by the researchers as revealed in their experiments; most of the respondents exhibited. highly proficient in observing, likewise, majority of the respondents are proficient in inferring, and predicting, and some of them are moderately proficient in communicating, measuring, and classifying.

In terms of the problem encountered by the respondents during their laboratory experiments: they have difficulties in operating and handling some laboratory apparatuses and equipment's, Some of them are not familiar in using the laboratory apparatuses that's why they don't know how to use it and they can easily be distracted from the noise made by their classmates that resulted lacking of time to finish their experiment.

Based on the previously enumerated findings, the following conclusion were drawn.

The respondents were accustomed to the different science process skills in doing laboratory experiments. However, respondents encountered problems in conducting laboratory experiments, they have difficulties in operating and handling some laboratory apparatuses. They are not familiar with some other laboratory apparatuses and experiments. They got easily distracted from the noise made by their classmate.

In lights of the findings and conclusion, the following recommendations are drawn:

Grade 7 students using science process skills during laboratory experiments can really help them understand and performed. However, it is also important for them to be familiar with the different apparatuses. Teachers in order for the students be familiar with the different apparatuses during their laboratory experiments. They should give an ample time and extra time in assisting and helping their learners. Parents They have to support their children in all the activities in schools most especially if it is for their improvement. School Administrator copy of the students, they must continuously support science class through providing science laboratory apparatuses and equipment's for the improvement of the learners. Future Teachers. They must be good in conducting laboratory experiments and also enhance their skills in using laboratory apparatuses and equipment. Future Researchers. They are encourage to conduct a study similar to the current study in depth analysis for more accurate findings.
