GS THESIS Master of Arts in Education Major in Educational Management University of Rizal System, Rodriguez, Rizal
year of 2022
This study aimed to determine the causes of the Grade 6 pupils' reading frustrations to be the basis in the development of an intervention program. This study also aimed to identify the efforts exerted by the parents, teachers and the school to address the problems on reading.
This study was conducted for School Year 2021 to 2022 at Payatas B Annex Elementary School. Seventeen (17) Grade 6 pupils together with their parents or guardians, 13 reading teachers, and 13 reading coordinators from the public elementary schools in Congressional District 2 of Quezon City were contributory to the needed information on this study. Descriptive evaluative type of research and cause and effect analysis method through an interview was utilized to collect data.
Findings revealed that the reading frustrations of the Grade 6 pupils were caused by lack of interest among pupils due to over fascination in using gadgets, insufficient support from family, teachers' misconception in the promotion of their pupils, noisy and troublesome home environment and limited funds to implement the school reading programs. Pupils cope with their reading difficulties with the help of their parents by means of practice reading, tutorial, provision of reading materials and through continued encouragement. Reading teachers exert efforts to address the reading frustrations of their pupils by means of conducting remedial reading interventions, encouraging their parents and pupils to participate, providing reading materials to them and attending trainings and seminars to learn varied strategies, approaches and techniques to teach their pupils how to read.
